These were the 3 original sets before the final product, I had a lot of trouble making them into one cohesive set system (the only thing they had in common was their frames.) Though the last set worked out nicely with the hands which Im pretty proud of, though there was still alot to be desired as in refining.
The concept I wanted to do with these signs to represent what you do act each place and what they stand for. To connect each one of the sets by using the concept of hands, and also to use it as a way of the viewer to put themselves in that scenario.
Explanation for each sign
Shuttle bus- With the Shuttle Bus sign I tried to focus on what on does in at the shuttle bus and what one see, I tried to make visually informative so to speak that what I was aiming for like the very first designs show the window of the bus and the passengers. Another one was the shuttle bus being shown on the phone cause you can check when the bus is coming. And the second one showcases a person getting off the bus with showcasing the legs. The more abstract versions are of the bus wheel shaped one and with two points in the side to show that the shuttle bus travels from two points. Then the one that’s designed to look like the shuttle bus map. And I have a few literal ones that show people what waiting at the bus and the bus itself whipping around in the silhouette that represent the school.
Global Ed. Center – The message that I was trying to get with this sign was the senses that “globally were all connected by education” or something in that sense. Most of the signs have a sense of connection such as the countries being webbed with the school,continents being in the shape of arrows to form a globe. Then there more informative ones such as the explores hat that has the earth and the airplane “where you can travel and get an education”, some other ones that do this such as the diploma in the shape of a plane and the other one with the ribbon being formed with the plane. Then there are the more abstract ones such as the globe persons head holding the diploma in the middle. And the scholar taking a trip on a boat and the visa as well.
University Library- For the library I just incorporated mostly with books, the first design shows have a book with half of the book being a computer. Then another consisting of a book growing out of the vine in shape of an infinity to show that you have a wide variety of books. Then I have one book that’s modified to look like a printer. And the rest of the designs show what you do and see at the library. Like checking out books looking through the isles and what they have.
Writing center- For this design I wanted show that the writing center is there to help to fix your writing and that there to help. So most of these design represent in correcting and improving though I had to dumb some of them done because most of them showed a little harshness to them in the earlier concepts. Though it turned out a lot better in my second try.
Advising – Advising proved to be the most difficult so at first I tried to go the abstract route though when another student saw he said he didn’t quite understand some of them. So I went more illustrative with these and added models in showing what one does at advising; to give guidance.
Creating the designs the thumbnails proved to be quite the hurdle to say the least. I had to try to consider what would look and inform the audience best. What I was aiming for to in general were symbols that showed the main purpose of the place.
What I was trying to do with my process work was to find all the information I could with the following places and center around that in my designs. The basic concept I had for these places is what is seen and what one does at these places that way my symbols inform that viewer when they look at them. That was my basic understanding of the project.
